Adel Melek is the Canadian and global leader of Information & Technology Risk Services at Deloitte as well as the global leader for Security, Privacy & Resiliency Services. Adel is also the global leader for Enterprise Risk Services for Deloitte's Global Financial Services Industry group (GFSI) and is a member of the firm’s global Enterprise Risk Services Executive Management Committee. Adel has led numerous engagements serving the largest and most complex global clients in the Financial Services industry including top global banks, payment card organizations and insurance companies in the areas of IT Risk management, Information Security & Privacy, resiliency & availability, E-Business and compliance.Adel is an advisor and a member of a number of committees including Revenue Canada, Cyber Security, ISACA GPC board, Industry Canada and the Retail Council of Canada to name a few.
On an annual basis, Adel leads the development and delivery of a Global Security Survey & benchmarking study across 4 industry sectors across all continents with participation of approximately 1000 organizations including at least 300 of the world ‘s top 1000 global organizations. In particular, Adel has run the global security survey for the Financial Services sector since inception in 2003 and it is now into its 7th year, with participation of over 370 global FIs, including at least 100 of the top 300 FSIs in the world. This study is constantly referenced and used globally, and has been referenced in various high profile research and advisory work including the U.S. Presidential Committees on Cyber Security, and more recently in the President’s Identity Theft Task Report, “Combating ID Theft; A Strategic Plan”.
Adel has a Masters of Science in Information Systems from DePaul University in Chicago, a diploma in Information systems auditing from the same university, and a Bachelor of Science of Commerce in Accounting. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), a Certified Information Systems Manager (CISM), a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT) and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Adel has joined Deloitte in 1991 and has serviced clients in over 20 countries over his career with the firm. He has moved to Canada in 1993, and was admitted to the partnership in 1998. Adel has security clearance with the Federal Government of Canada and NATO.Adel was the President of the ISACA Toronto Chapter during 1998 – 2000, and during his tenure as President, the ISACA Toronto Chapter became the 2nd largest chapter in the world and received back to back The Wayne Snipes ISACA award.
